Girls Just Wanna Be.... My Review of:"Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore" by Walter Mosley

Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore by Walter Mosley

Whenever I find myself being so enchanted by a story, to the point that I just can't stop reading, I know right then and there that I'm onto something awesome...

"Debbie Doesn't Do It Anymore" was so amazing, that words can hardly describe how good this book was. Not only was it amazingly captivating, but the characters were absolutely phenomenal. Debbie/Sandra herself was a bright star in a universe full of oddball and shady characters.

Amazingly enough, it isn't until she comes hard, and he leaves hard, that she begins to question the system that has literally held her bound for years on end.

To be succinct, this book was a perfect mix of Mystery, Suspense, Delicious Drama, and Erotica, that reminds one of Mr. Mosley's talent for composing a thought-provoking tale involving misfits and miscreants, who have their own tales of love, lust, regret, and utter woe to contend with...

It doesn't get anymore real than this...

My Favorite Things for the Week of May 26, 2014

Here are the list of books that are competing for a share of my Kindle budget...

Indescribable DOM's.... My Review of:"Dom Wars.. Box set for 1 & 2" by Lucian Bane

Dom Wars: Round 1 & 2 (Dom Wars, #1&2)Dom Wars: Round 1 & 2 by Lucian Bane
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Within the last 5% of this book, I found a sentence that defines the entire book.... That being, "I can have sex with meaning."

Translation? When the D/s relationship is real and authentic, it's not about pain, degradation, and humiliation. When it's pure and true, it's about trust and intimacy (into me you see).

As a Sociologist, I've researched the BDSM culture along with it's growing influence on the publishing industry, and found that the success/acceptance of a lot of erotic/BDSM authors (published since 2011), can be attributed to the wildly popular FSOG.

A decade or two before FSOG's success, BDSM/Erotica books were considered to be somewhat deviant in Popular Culture. (I should know, because I spent 10 years in the bookselling industry.)

Even though this author and others strongly dislike Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James , they'd better thank E.L James for taking this genre and mainstreaming it for consumption amongst Popular Culture. Better yet, thank "Twilight."

(Yeah, I said it!)

Other than that, this book could have named "The Dom & The Switch."

It wasn't pitch perfect, nor was it without its moments of corniness and over-the-top antics. I don't know who Lucian Bane is, but I can definitely see some autobiographical elements interwoven amongst the pages.

Basically, it was good, but it needs more polishing.

Being a Sociology major, I liked this book because it an informative guide that just about anyone could clearly comprehend.

Not only was it easy to read, but it was thought-provoking and funny as well.

2nd Chance Love... My Review of: "Broken" ... Written by: Zena Wynn

Broken (conclusion to Beyond the Breaking Point)Broken by Zena Wynn
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

***Revised on 05/6/2014. 1st review was just a little too sarcastic***

When I first saw this book on the bestseller list for Interracial/Multiracial Romance ebooks, I was super-excited. And once I bought it and starting reading all of the delicious drama, I was seriously in my happy place.

But then, once I passed the 50% mark, I started to get a little perturbed..

Why you ask? Because it seemed as if there was a disconnect with the characters, the flow was uneven, and worst of all, it seemed as if the epilogue was non-existent.

BTW, What happened to the freakin' epilogue? If there is going to be another installment, somebody, anybody, please let me know, because this is just not cool.

What should have been a 5 star read has turned into barely a 3 star read (for me)... Yes, I am disappointed in the way that the story turned out, but at least it's not so bad to where I just want to cry.. Oh well...

Chocolate Lovers Unite!!! ... My Review of: "Love and Lists"... Written by: Tara Sivec

Love and Lists (Chocoholics, #1)Love and Lists by Tara Sivec
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Although this book was chock full of hilarious dialogue, great characters, and sheer awesomeness; it wasn't pitch perfect. After the 70% mark, I was strongly tempted to fast forward through the book, just to find out happened. Also, the epilogue left something to be desired.

Giving this one: 3.5 stars.

Secret Lovers ... My Review of: "Love, In English" ... Written by Karina Halle

Love, In EnglishLove, In English by Karina Halle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Don't get me wrong. I by no means, would ever, ever, ever approve of an adulterous relationship, no matter how much in love or lust, the two culprits were.

Also, I normally make it a rule to stay away from this type of fiction, but considering that this book was written by the incredibly awesome Karina Halle, I decided to break my own rule and check this one out...

To be succinct, this book was captivating in most parts, but it did have a little bit of lag in other areas.

Overall, the characters were multidimensional, and the message was quite clear, that being, love can be found in the most unusual places, and that it's not always pitch perfect.

Giving this one: 4 solid stars.

Awesome Erotica.... My Review of: "Sexy As Sin" .... Written by Kenya Wright

Sexy as SinSexy as Sin by Kenya Wright
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Kenya Wright is an awesome writer, and I love most of her books... I liked this one, but I have to say that reading the word "Daddy" during sexual play, felt a little "icky."

Other than that, it was a fun book to read...

Captivatingly Intense Fiction.... My Review of: "Until I Saw Your Smile" by J.J. Murray

Until I Saw Your SmileUntil I Saw Your Smile by J.J. Murray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

***ARC supplied via Kensington/Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review***

As a fan of Interracial Romance and anything that's captivatingly awesome, I have to say that I am more than impressed by J.J Murray's latest endeavor.

Not only was it captivating and intense, but it was also thought-provoking as well. The characters were touchable, and the world-building was so incredible, that you actually felt like you were right there with the characters.

However, let me say that even though I loved it, the book wasn't entirely pitch perfect. At some point during the 50%-70% portion, there seemed to be a small amount of lag going on.. Also, during this point in the book, Michael's internal and external dialogue seemed a little disjointed.

Other than that, I really do believe that J.J. Murray is hitting his stride as an author, and I look forward to seeing what he's going to do next..

Giving this one: 4 solid stars.
