Indie Authors to Rave About... My Review of: "Lingus" by Mariana Zapata

LingusLingus by Mariana Zapata
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's Official... I am so hooked on Mariana Zapata's books until it is absolutely bananas!!

Not only was this book awesomely captivating, but it was well written with loads of passion for the story as well.

After reading this, I really do feel Ms. Zapata is in the same league as the incredibly awesome Aurora Belle and Kenya Wright; because all three authors care more about the quality of what they produce, rather than just the quantity.

The thing that I really liked about this book is that before any scenes of gratuitous sex popped up on the horizon, I was able to witness the birth and development of an actual friendship/relationship 1st... Besides that, this book was chock full of so many funny lines, that I found myself snickering throughout most of the book...

By the time I finished reading this book, I was ready to 1-Click all of her books.. But unfortunately, after having read Under Locke& this book, I've read everything that she's written to date.

Note to Ms. Zapata:... "Time's a wastin'! You need to publish a new book, and Pronto!" (Just Kidding...)

In my opinion, this awesome "standalone" book should have been at least $5.99, because it was just than good!

Political Heat.... My Review of: "Off the Record (Record, #1)" by K.A Linde

Off the Record (Record, #1)Off the Record by K.A. Linde
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

***ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

When I first began to read this seductive tale of an alpha-male political candidate chasing after a student reporter with chutzpah, I was hooked. But that only lasted for the first 30% of the book, but then... I ran into some lagg, and then became disenchanted with the story. Thankfully, the storyline began to gather steam after a few pages, but yet and still, I believe that this book could have been better than it was. Hopefully, Ms. Linde will make up for it with the sequel.

"Sexy & Ya Know It" Vamps... My Review of: Duncan (Vampires in America, #5) by D.B. Reynolds

Duncan (Vampires in America, #5)Duncan by D.B. Reynolds
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

*** ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review***

Before I begin, let me say this... I am totally hooked on D.B's "Vampires in America" series... I love the writing, I love the characters, and I love the romance. Now, with that being said, I have to say that although I love the series, I wasn't totally geeked about this installment. I liked it, but I didn't love it. The story was good, but there was a bit of lag, and the female character's level of emotional intelligence was ridiculous. Also, I couldn't understand how a vampire as sophisticated and powerful as Duncan would want someone like Emma. Oh well, wonders will never cease to amaze me..

Overall, this was a fairly good read, but it could have been better.

Being a persnickety lover of Paranormal Romance Fiction and Urban Fantasy, I found this book to be a decent read, and captivating in parts, but not totally captivating.

Normally when I read a PNR/UF book, I want to be dazzled and amazed, so much so, to the point where I am compelled to blaze my way through it.

The emotional aspect of this story was nice, but it still needed a little more oomph in the way of better character & storyline development, and not to mention, a much needed infusion of stronger paranormal elements.

Although it didn't rock my world, I found it to be a nice way to spend a few hours on Sunday afternoon.

"Whip It Good" Doms .... My Review for: "His Secrets" (Inside Out, #3.1) by Lisa Renee Jones

His Secrets (Inside Out, #3.1)His Secrets by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

***ARC given by Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review**

Before reading a BDSM-themed novel, sometimes I wonder "Just how dysfunctional are these characters going to be?" Also,I wonder "Is this going to be the PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, or XXX view of the BDSM universe?"

With this novella, I would have to say that this is the PG-13 preview of a rated NC-17 view into the BDSM universe.

Although some of the dialogue seemed somewhat stilted, I found this novella to be quite interesting , but entirely too short to answer all of the questions that I had about Chris, Sara, and Chris' freaky menagerie of friends, foes, and utter whores...

I hate to say this, but I have to say it.. Like other fans of FSOG, I've developed these FSOG glasses that literally compel me to examine just about every BDSM themed book and ask, "Is this a FSOG rip-off?"

As fans of FSOG, what we sometimes fail to remember that well in advance before FSOG ever came into being from Ms. James' inspiration via the sexual angst of "Twilight," purveyors of smut/BDSM were hard at work on their typewriters/computers drafting tales so naughty, that the pages literally smoldered and started a fire in the readers who dared to read those naughty pages...

Although she didn't inspire me to rush out and 1-click the entire series, Ms. Jones has managed to whet my curiosity about her series and perhaps 1-click the 1st book in the series.

Angels Vs. Demons... My Review of:"Forbidden" by Lori Adams

Forbidden (The Soulkeepers, #1)Forbidden by Lori Adams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***ARC supplied by Netgally.com in exchange for an honest review***

Simply put... This book was amazing! Not only was it captivating, but it was intriguing as well. From the very beginning, Ms. Adams managed to managed to craft a storyline that was for the most part, well paced and chock full of sexual angst...

At times, the emotions flowing amongst the love triangle consisting of Michael, Sophia, and Dante was so thick that you could almost cut it with a knife...

Not only were the characters well developed, but the paranormal elements were awesome as well.

Other than that, my only issues with the book was a small amount of lag between the 65%-83% mark, and the absolute sheer stupidity that Sophia managed to display during one of the pivotal moments in the story.

In my opinion, Ms. Adams has managed to start her series off right, and I am looking forward to either pre-ordering the sequel "Awaken" or "1-Clicking" it, once it is released.

Giving this one: 4 solid stars.

Vivacious Vampires that'll make you Swoon... My Review of: "Sophia" (Vampires in America #4) by D.B. Reynolds

Sophia (Vampires in America, #4)Sophia by D.B. Reynolds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

***ARC supplied by NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review***

Warning! If you read this book at night, be prepared to suffer the consequences! This book is good that you will keep on reading until you're too tired to keep your eyes open! Books that are as intensely captivating as this one with characters that live and breathe via each and every page, will make you keep going until the break of day...

Although one would think that each book (in this series) would just be a cookie cutter version of the first, that is definitely not the case. Each book has its own special flavor, tempting the reader to delve deeper into the colorful world that D.B has written, thereby causing them to become addicted to the series.

Being the persnickety reader that I am, the only drawback for this book was a slow beginning and the looonnng sex scenes....

Other than that, I absolutely loved reading Sophie and Colin's story, and I look forward to going a little deeper into this series. The cliff hangers don't leave you totally in the lurch, but they do manage to whet your appetite for more.

Hopefully, D.B manages to keep up the pace, and not crap out like some authors who shall remain nameless.

Giving this one: 4 Solid stars...
